Dinas ladies faced a tough away game against a talented young Newport county ladies on Sunday in their quest for their first title. On a very hot day the visitors started the brightest as Laura Murray fired two early shots wide.
Newport then settled down and came into the match as the youthful team showed plenty of enthusiasm and energy. Dinas struggled to get to grips with the game and the size of the pitch as they looked a shadow of their normal selves.
With 30 minutes on the clock Murray latched on to a through ball and cooly rounded the keeper to break the deadlock. Nao nearly added a brace as she fired two snap shots which went straight to the Newport keeper from 5 yards.
At the other end Kelly Tuck, Rachel Beare, Alex Allen and Alicia Cox had to be on their toes tracking runners and limiting the home teams chances.
At the start of the second half Demi Bounds thought she had increased the lead but fired over from 5 yards after laura lewis, Murray and nao had created a fantastic opportunity for the pacey forward.
Taylor Page and Sophie whittle entered the game and both were straight in the action.
Dinas started the second half much better and where looking to kill the game off early on. Murray rattled the bar before doubling the lead. Gemma Crowley replaced Murray and the striker who has worked hard on her fitness showed Composure linking up with nao and whittle.
Jodi Bowles and Vicki Elison were the finals subs used. As the game went into the final third Dinas showed their steel with some solid defending. Jones and Pattermore both experienced players held the middle well and Bowles injected some muscle.
Elison saved the day late on last week and again her last ditch defending gave the visitors another clean sheet.
Naomi Wilson collected another clean sheet which is something the defence and Wilson pride themselves on. Dinas have only conceded 12 goals in 16 league games, this shows how organised this defence has become.
This was not a classic performance but the ladies put in a display showing togetherness and at this time of the season results are far more important.
